What do I need to connect?
A KNX installation with a KNX IP interface or router, and your device connected to the same local network. Secured installations also require the appropriate KNX IP Secure or Data Secure credentials. No visualization server is required.
What commissioning tasks can I perform?
Program individual addresses, check device presence, scan lines and read device information and memory. Send read or write commands and watch the bus traffic to test how the installation responds. Open an ETS project to inspect its devices, group addresses and communication objects.
Can I create a dashboard from a text file?
Yes. A dashboard can be defined as a JSON text file and imported into SharKNX. Write it yourself or use an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude with the documented dashboard format and examples. You can also build and edit dashboards inside the app. Controls must use the correct addresses and settings for the installation.
Can I keep dashboards for different installations?
Yes. Save several dashboards in the app and switch between them. Each can carry its own connection settings. Export a dashboard and send it to a customer or another device through email or a messaging app. Exports with security keys are password-protected; the recipient imports the file and connects to the appropriate network.
Does KNX work require an internet connection?
Bus communication runs on the local network, without a cloud service. Internet access is needed to install the app and for store purchase verification. Mobile subscriptions need periodic online verification.
Is SharKNX free?
On Android and iOS, the free plan includes project browsing and limited monitoring and commands. A subscription or lifetime purchase removes daily limits and unlocks professional tools. On Windows, SharKNX is a one-time paid download with all features included. Current prices are shown in the store or in the app.
